Mas Cerveza, Por Favor!

A thoughtful chronicle of my study-abroad experience at the UDLA in Mexico...and by that I mean a collection of wild stories about crazy things I will do in Mexico and some other random, non-important things.

Slacker!!

For some reason, I just, well, suck at keep this up-to-date. Whoops. Add that to my list of February's New Month's resolutions...January just didn't seem like a good month for resolutions so I'm extending it through Feb. Feel free to do the same.

So I'm at work right now. I've been here for almost 4 hours already, and not done a single piece of work because my boss just hasn't arrived yet. The work mentality here its so different, they come in late, take long lunches and then end up staying at work til the wee hours of the night. Its a foreign concept to me. Hopefully I'll get used to it soon...

I enjoy my job, more or less. I'm bored a lot of the time. But when I actually do work, its not so bad. I love the people I work with. I don't speak nearly enough Spanish in the office, more like almost 100% English but thats my fault that I just let them to talk to me in English. I am very appreciative of the few people who refuse to give in and only speak to me in Spanish. Hopefully things will get a lot more fun around here once all the projects come to fruition and we're actually holding the events that are still in the planning stages now. For example, in 10 days we will be hosting the Coca-Cola/FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour here in Mexico City that we've been planning for so long. It sounds like it will be a lot of work to make sure everything goes smoothly but it will be fun to get out of this office (well, its more like a converted house with no typical office vibe going on) and work at the event. I promise I'll update after that happens.

Hmm, oh I haven't really mentioned much about my roomie. In a nutshell: she's very nice, kind of one screw loose but harmless, loves to talk, 42 - yep twice my age, single and never been married, PREGNANT and not in contact with the baby's father. She's lived in Mexico City for almost 15 years and is very helpful, and she has a dog that sometimes i like and sometimes annoys the hell out of me - apparently i'm not an animal lover, oh the things you learn about yourself as you experience life!!!! The house is pretty nice, I don't like the shower cuz there's not enough water pressure and the hot water doesn't last long enough for my taste, but oh well. My bed is super comfy, and my retinas have adjusted with minimal damage to the color of the walls. I no longer need to wear my sunglasses when I'm just chillin in my room, yay.

Dan is coming to visit for NU Spring Break so I'm excited about that. Mexico City is just so much fun it will be nice to take a week off of work and just go crazy going to the museums and the zoo and to the great restaurants and stuff. It would be really cool if more people, ahem my friends, would have the desire to come visit me here. Mexico isn't just fields and cacti and small brown men on donkeys strumming on mariachi guitars, I swear. Its a really cool place. We could even go to the beach if you want, although its a long busride there.

Its so crazy to me that all my non-NU friends in college will be graduating in a few months!!!! I'm so happy that I have a whole 'nother year, I'm definitely not ready for this to be over. I'm still a baby, haha. I can't imagine what you guys are feeling right now, probably a emotional mix of excited, sad, scared, relieved...but I have no idea, I'm not there yet. Let me know when y'all find your jobs and stuff. I'm interested to know where you end up, seriously.

I have to pee really badly right now and there's no TP in the bathroom. I'm not really sure what to do with myself. Maybe the "pee dance" would help the situation. Probably not though.

Ok then, time to hunt for some tp before I wet myself.

New Room

So....in order for you to visualize the Mexican Paradise of a room that I sleep in, I thought I'd put up some photos.

This is before the room got painted (when I had to sleep on the couch for 4 nights...)

And now, after a few coats of paint (note: I did not pick the colors, my housemate did) the room has been transformed into my own authentic 4 walled fiesta...

The walls look kind of yellow here. Trust me they're not. It's more of a flaming neon pea soup greeny color. Yum.

Yep, that mint green dresser sure complements the theme of the room....the theme being "too many bright colors in one small space".

No room would be complete without a hot pink antique vanity! (And yes, I intentionally organized all of my clothing in the closet by color and type. I was bored.)

So there you go! A virtual tour of mi casa.
Now its time for bed.
More blogging another day soon, I promise.
