Mas Cerveza, Por Favor!

A thoughtful chronicle of my study-abroad experience at the UDLA in Mexico...and by that I mean a collection of wild stories about crazy things I will do in Mexico and some other random, non-important things.

6 months later

Holy crap. I haven't blogged in 6 months. It's not like I've been hugely busy during those 6 months either. I can't believe what a slacker I've been.

Hmm. Well let's see. Since May 15th the following has happened:
  • my long-term relationship ended
  • my beloved grandfather passed away (love and miss you grampy)
  • i moved back from mexico
  • i spent june, july and august living at home doing nothing but going to 6 flags with my little brother and sleeping late
  • almost had my ear lobes amputated due to a severe ear piercing infection/allergic reaction to white gold
  • moved back to boston in September for my final semester at NU
  • got highlights for the first time
  • went to California for the first time

I guess I could come up with more things that have happened since then, but as we've already established, I'm LAZY.

Hmm...well now that I'm not living in Mexico anymore, I guess its time to retire this blog and begin a new one. I'll post the link to that as soon as I create it...

(In the words of Cash Corbett) With love and oral satisfaction,

HEY its my anniversary!

I just realized that today marks my 1 year of blogging anniversary. How exciting!

French Dressing?

So I work with this french girl, right? And I used to say it looked like every day she just fell into her closet and whatever stuck to her infrequently bathed body was what she wore to work. Well I'd like to refine that judgement.

I think in elementary school, a teacher made the analogy that types of clothes are like the food groups, and to be complete you must not only eat all food groups but "wear" them too, making sure that each piece is a different color and none of them actually coordinate. So for her, its "healthy" to wear jeans, a skirt or dress, tanktop, tshirt, and hoodie all at the same time, in various layers. For example, today her "base layers" are jeans and a long sleeve turtle neck. This is topped by a sleeveless zip-up dress, and a scarf around her neck. Just part of this complete breakfast, right?

WRONG.

Whoops

Yeah, you'll never get an update about the things that have happened in the past 2 months, like my trip home to get my new computer, my change in life plans, my awesome spring breaks, and just life in general. Because I suck at life. Try to accept me and my flaws if you can.

Anyway. I thought I'd share a list of a few things I plan on investing in in the near future (aka when I have so much excess income that I can't figure out what to do with it).

1. Every volume of the "Now That's What I Call Music" series of CDs. I would like to preserve the hits of my youth for my ovums that I hope will become children at some point.

2. The entire 10-Season DVD Box Set (when it comes out) of 7th Heaven. 221 episodes of pure wholesome entertainment.

3. Mint-conditions pogs and/or New Kids On The Block trading cards. Back in the day I was a proud owner of both. Who knows where they are now. I'd like to cover a coffee table in them because that would be one sweet piece of living room furniture.

4. All of the outdated video gaming systems (Nintendo, Super NES, Sega) and the sweet games to go with them...anything where the controller still has only one side with an arrow pad thing and the other with 2/4 buttons. Powerpad and that arm sleeve thing included.

And while I'm at it, I'd just like to wonder out loud why NO ONE has yet put up the funds to start an all 90's network. Even better than a network would be a television empire. Think about it.....being able to watch the cartoons/music videos/Nickelodeon/game shows/sitcoms of those marvelous formative years of your life WHENEVER YOU WANTED (thanks to Tivo). I would never go out if Friday nights consisted of the Smurfs, Pop-Up Videos, The Weiner Show, Remote Control, and My Two Dads.

Trip to the ZOO!

Being the strong independent woman I am, I decided to venture solo to the Mexico City Chapultepec zoo on Saturday the 18th since its free. It was "bring your handicapped mexican child to the zoo day". But seriously, it was the "Amigos de Teleon" annual trip to the zoo. (Amigos de Teleton are like a group that volunteers with handicapped kids and raises money for Teleon, an organization that helps the disabled.) It was very sad to see all those kids, but nice that so many people volunteer, I think there was at least a 1 volunteer to 1 kid ratio, and probably 200 kids there, so that was nice.

Anyway, a zoo is a zoo no matter what country its in, so I won't go into too much detail about the exhibits. (I did pay 35 pesos (3.50usd) to go see the Butterly Paradise and the Bug Palace. Butterflies were very cool, bugs were very creepy.)

I thought these photos were cool cuz its got some skyline in with the zoo. (Fun fact: If you click on the photo it will get bigger in a new window. Cool!)

Spring Break(s)!

This year, I'm joining that elite club of youngn's who get not one but two springtime vacations! (No, I'm not talking about elementary/middle/highschool February and April vacations...) I'm takin' 2 weeks off of work to enjoy life! WOOO HOOO

S.B. 1
When: March 4 - 11
Where: Mexico City
Who: The Boyfriend
What: Some touristy things, and some not so touristy things.
Why: Cuz he loves me and wants to see what life is like south of the border.

S.B. 2
When: April 7 - 15
Where: Cancun
Who: The Girlfriend, aka Liz
What: Hostels with Harry Potter themes, topless beaches?, sand, sunblock, surf, sol (the sun) and Sol (the Mexican beer).
Why: Cuz we both have bathing suits with the price tags still on them that we had to find a use for by the end of April or they would self distruct. Oh, yeah. And the flight and hostel were pretty damn cheap.

If anyone wants in on SB2, let me know.
Volaris for the flight, and HostelsWeb for the hostel. You can do it all online. Technology rules.
